We all have an emotional response to the manner in which light interacts with objects in nature or human-made surfaces & structures. Within the interior environment there are countless methods for casting light on to static surfaces. But few that allow the adjustment of the surface itself. Variable is our first realisation in a study of how we can enable reflector's surface to be manipulated and configured as desired.
The paper reflector, suspended between two counterweighted masts, can be shaped into numerous forms. The third mast, containing an LED strip, can be positioned to achieve the wanted level of contrast and shading.
Welded steel construction with powder coated finish. Magnetically suspended 3D printed brackets mount both the LED strip and the pine wood paper clamps between which Japanese Washi paper is suspended.
